TEN OF MY SONGS ARE FEATURED ON A NEW ALBUM!

It is so pleasing. After 15 or so years of writing songs on and off, with artist Robby Wayne Varner and a Nashville band in an album called AMBUSH, ten of my sparkling -- to me -- little ornaments, musical sonnets, are out in the world on the label Famous Records Corp.

I'll be giving the lyrics here and also on SCRYBD because I do want them to be shared; and I hope readers of this blog will download the MP3 as an album or as individual songs. Here are the titles, in random order:

Dance with Lightning
The Golden Oldie
Watch Out for Falling Rocks
Wanted--Dead or in Love
Courage Grows like a Rose
If I Could Love You with my Song
Looking for a Girl
Just in Time
Thank You Girl
Truck Stop Love

Because it is most appropriate in a depressed economy, I'll start with Courage Grows Like a Rose.

Down in the dumps, bad part of town
went into a bar to put a few down.
Didn't have the money to pay the rent,
sank my head in my hands in discouragement

Man shuffled in from his home on the street
His old face was lined, his clothes were torn and beat.
Sat down beside me and to my surprise
when he saw my despair he said with kindly eyes:

Take heart, young man,
Oh pain will make you strong.
Courage grows like a rose
Thorn after thorn it is born.
Don't cry, don't run,
Face your problems one by one.
Courage grows like a rose

thorn after thorn it is born.

He said, some work and some work never
But all feel pain and all want pleasure.
So hold your head high, put a smile on your face
you may be poor but rich in sweet grace.

Take heart, young man,
pain will make you strong.
Courage grows like a rose,

Thorn after thorn it is born.
Don't cry, don't run,
Face your problems one by one.
Courage grows like a rose

thorn after thorn it is born.

After he left I went out to a park
watched the city getting light and the sky getting dark.
Felt a kind of freedom that I'd missed for so long,
his words reaching out like a long-lost song.

Take heart, young man,
pain will make you strong.
Courage grows like a rose,
Thorn after thorn it is born.
Don't cry, don't run,
Face your problems one by one.
Courage grows lilke a rose

thorn after thorn it is born.
Courage grows like a rose.
